The BMW Berlin Marathon attracts over 45,000 runners every year. The 49th running of the Berlin Marathon promises to attract the best in the world together with a mix of club and social runners. Cut off time to run the course is 6 hours 15 minutes so you too can experience how it feels to run a legendary marathon on a World record course and become a Berlin legend!
The start and finish are both located in the Tiergarten on Straße des 17. Juni between Brandenburg Gate and Victory Column. The course is fast, characterised by flat, wide roads with several long straight sections and enthusiastic spectators cheering you through the streets of this historic city. The BMW Berlin Marathon presents all runners with a great opportunity to aim at a new PB!

Arrival, Marathon Expo & Shake-Out Run
Depending on the length of stay you have booked with us you might arrive before or depart on different days to the following itinerary. The itinerary below reflects the 3 nights package.
Make your way to Berlin and on arrival check in to your hotel. Hotel rooms are usually ready after 3pm; if you arrive earlier, you can leave your luggage with the hotel concierge and explore the city and surrounds. Marathon Tours & Travel team will be available in your hotel today to meet and answer any questions you might have.
Today is the best day to visit the Marathon Expo and collect your bib number and any other extra items you may have pre-ordered. The Marathon Expo has plenty to see and do so we suggest you allow time to collect your race documents, shop from the many exhibitors, listen to the experts and enjoy the pre-race vibe. There will be opportunities, morning & afternoon to meet with your Marathon Tours & Travel team at the hotel to travel together to the Marathon Expo. For those who prefer to visit the expo independently, detailed directions will be provided in your final itinerary.
Early evening, we invite you to join your Marathon Tours & Travel team for an easy run to stretch the legs. The route is not expected to be longer than 6km and will pass some local sights such as the Jewish Memorial, Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag and Berliner Dom. Supporters are very welcome to join too.
Saturday 23rd September, 2023
Optional Breakfast Run, Preparation & Dinner
There is an organised Breakfast Run for the international visitors today. It’s fun and welcomes runners from all nations, many wear their countries traditional dress or carry their nations flags. If the route returns to its original route it will start at the Charlottenburg Palace and finish 6kms later at the Olympic Stadium, however it may take place at the Expo (as it did in 2022). Its free and you are not required to pre-register. Please let us know if you are interested and the Marathon Tours & Travel team will join you!
Often restaurants are booked up early, but you don’t need to worry about finding somewhere to carbo load this evening as you join the Marathon Tours & Travel team for a delicious and nutritious pre-race pasta dinner.

Berlin Marathon & Celebrations
This is the day you have trained so hard for! After an early breakfast please get ready to leave the hotel for the race start in the Tiergarten. The Marathon Tours & Travel team will be available to assist you to the race.
From the Novotel Berlin Mitte hotel walk 4 minutes to U Bahn Station Spittelmarkt from where it’s a 6-minute journey to Potsdamer Platz. From there it’s just a 15-minute walk to the entrance to the runners only start area (front of the Reichstag).
Alternatively, from the Novotel Berlin Mitte hotel walk 13 minutes to U Bahn Station Museumsinsel from where it’s a 4-minute journey to Bundestag. From there it’s just a 4-minute walk to the entrance to the runners only start area (front of the Reichstag).
From the Leonardo Berlin Mitte hotel its a straightforward 15 minutes walk to the runners only start area (front of the Reichstag).
Family and friends can travel by public transport to support and spectate along the race route or join our team at a cheer point on the marathon route. The Marathon Tours & Travel team will be happy to advise.
After the race make your way back to the hotel, freshen up, relax and gaze at your lovely new shiny medal…you worked hard for it!

Arrive in Berlin and transfer on your own to your hotel. You will be greeted at your hotel by Marathon Tours & Travel staff. This evening enjoy a Welcome Reception with your running peers. The rest of the evening is free to enjoy this historic city.

Sightseeing Tour & Marathon Expo
Enjoy a morning city tour of Berlin. Local English speaking guides will provide a great overview of old East and West Berlin. The sights you will see include the Reichstag, the Holocaust Memorial Site, the East Side Gallery, Checkpoint Charlie, the Olympic Stadium and Charlottenburg Palace. We will conclude the tour with a stop at Expo BERLIN VITAL where each runner will collect their bib. This evening is free to enjoy on your own.

Saturday 23rd September, 2023
Option Breakfast Run, Preparation Day & Dinner
This morning is the not to miss 6K International Breakfast Run ! Participants tend to dress up in their country’s flair with flags or costumes, so we invite you to be creative! The run/walk is about four miles and then is followed by a light breakfast. Roundtrip transfers by coach bus will be provided to and from the breakfast run. This evening is the pre-race dinner.

Berlin Marathon & Celebrations
Race Day! There is not a set time for everyone to walk to the start together. Our hotel is a 15-minute walk to the entrance to the runners only start area (front of the Reichstag). We recommend you allow between 60-90 minutes to walk over to the start area, check your bag, and get settled into your corral area. Following the race enjoy a free afternoon and join us in the evening to celebrate your accomplishment!

Departure Day
Today concludes the Berlin Marathon package. Enjoy a leisure morning before transferring on your own to the airport for your international flight home. Or, better yet continue on with us to one of our three post-Berlin extensions – Oktoberfest in Munich, Prague or Scotland (including the Loch Ness Marathon)!

Enter the 2023 Berlin Marathon with Marathon Tours & Travel
On 30 September 1,990 athletes were able to run through the Brandenburg Gate for the first time and since then, the course has covered both halves of the unified city. The start and finish are both located in the Tiergarten on Straße des 17. Juni between Brandenburg Gate and Victory Column. The 49th running of the Berlin Marathon promises to attract the best in the world together with a mix of more than 45,000 club and social runners.
The Course
The course is fast, characterised by flat, wide roads with several long straight sections and enthusiastic spectators cheering you through the streets of this historic city. Drums, music bands and an endless stream of people calling your name will bring you home for the 6 hours 15 minutes cut off. The BMW Berlin Marathon presents all runners with a great opportunity to aim at a new PB! You too can experience how it feels to run a legendary marathon on a World record course and become a Berlin legend!
Race Time: 9:15 AM
Minimum Pace/Cut-off Time Policy: 6:15 hours after crossing the Start timing mat.
Eligibility: Marathon Tours & Travel, an authorized tour operator, is required to offer travel arrangements in conjunction with guaranteed race entry. All runners must be 18 years or older on race day to be eligible for our guaranteed entries.
Number Pickup: You must pick up your race bib and packet at the Registration & Expo prior to race day. Marathon Tours & Travel has scheduled a stop at the Expo on Friday, September 22.
Temperature: Average temperatures on race day are between 55 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
Awards: Every finisher receives a medal. You do not receive a t-shirt with this event.

How to Book

Payments
When you confirm your booking, we will take a deposit payment. Subsequent payments are taken automatically.

Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is an essential part of any holiday you take, and we highly recommend that you purchase suitable insurance for your trip. You must ensure that your travel insurance policy also covers you to participate in running events.
Security Policy
Marathon Tours & Travel’s security policy requires that anyone staying in our room block must be registered as part of our package. If a registered client attempts to house a non-registered guest and /or invite them to attend any of our scheduled activities, the registered guest’s tour package will be forfeited and parties may be denied access to future tours. Please note that no exceptions will be made as this policy will be strictly enforced.
Race RulesOur itinerary and details regarding the race are based on current information available at the time this package was released for sale. Whilst we expect the details to remain correct, changes are possible and will be confirmed nearer to the trip after the race organisers have confirmed final instructions. All race rules and procedures need to be followed.
Starting Pens and Bib Numbers
Although we are licensed to sell official entries for the 2023 BMW Berlin Marathon, we have no influence over the allocation of starting times and bib numbers.
Closer to the event we will send you a link which will allow you to complete the registration process for the 2023 BMW Berlin Marathon. Once you have finalised the registration process, the race organisers will allocate you a starting time and bib based on the information provided. This link will not be sent until closer to race day – please do not expect it immediately after booking – it will depend on when BMW Berlin Marathon send the links to us.

Berlin Marathon Extras
- adidas size chart (please note this is for reference only – you do not need to select at time of purchase)
- Pre-ordered and pre-purchased event merchandise to be collected at the EXPO with your race materials. You will be given an option to purchase merchandise directly from the race organisers after your registration.
Your Race Kit
You get your race kit ONLY at the EXPO and ONLY during opening hours* former Flughafen Tempelhof, Platz der Luftbrücke 5, 12101 Berlin. ONLY with your start card AND a picture ID (passport, driver’s license). ONLY personally (no power of attorney accepted in any case)!
Your Race Kit Consists Of:
- Your bib number and safety pins
- An athlete’s wristband – will be put on your wrist at the EXPO. It is your ticket to the start area. DO NOT remove it before leaving the finish area
- A rental chip (if ordered) – If you have your own chip, please bring that to the pick-up
- Option to choose a clothing bag for bag drop at race OR a poncho, given at race finish (depending on what you have chosen at your registration)
- A goodie-bag with presents from sponsors
- A voucher on your bib number for your pre-ordered services and merchandise from the BERLIN HALF MARATHON collection
- With your registration you have the choice between the poncho and clothing bag. Please note that your choice cannot be changed afterwards.
Poncho
If you choose the Poncho option:
You will NOT get a clothing bag
On the race day you can NOT drop-off any clothes nor any valuables or bring any luggage to the start area
If you booked the poncho-option, you will find the corresponding symbol on your bib number
You will get the warming and reusable poncho after crossing the finish line
You save time, since you do not need to queue at the clothing drop-off.
Bag drop-off
If you choose the bag drop-off option:
with your race kit you will get a transparent clothing bag and a sticker with your start number for the bag
Clothing and valuables have to be packed into the clothing bag in order to enter the starting area
All objects need to be packed separately and loosely. You may not put other bags in your clothing bag
Any kind of luggage is prohibited within the start/finish area
You drop off your clothing bag at the indicated tent and retrieve it there after you have finished
You do NOT get a poncho!
Time measurement is done exclusively with the ChampionChip!
The ChampionChip is a small plastic transponder that has to be fastened on your running shoe (no metal contact!) and will measure your personal race time. Your net running time can only be measured if you step on the contact mats laid out on the starting and finishing lines. Likewise, you must step on all mats laid out on the route. Intermediate time check – you will be disqualified if your intermediate times are not recorded. Please return the chip in the finish.
PAPS Test
Before you start with the registration, you will be asked to take 2-3 minutes of time to protect your health by completing a non-binding and free health check.
Regular physical activity has a positive effect on your health. However, sport is no guarantee for a risk-free state of health. Familial risk factors, but also lifestyle-related risks are not always in direct correlation with your training condition and should be known in advance. Therefore, please be honest with yourself when answering the questions.
With the PAPS test, we want to help you become aware of your own state of health—there are no consequences for your eligibility to participate. The recommendation at the end of the test is made available to you for your personal and voluntary further use. The PAPS test does not replace a visit to the doctor and cannot provide 100% certainty of an existing or emerging risk. The collected, non-personalized data will not be handed over to the organiser. The data may be used in anonymised and encrypted form for scientific purposes by the Medical Board of SCC EVENTS.
